The government has decided to declare a national holiday on Friday to mourn the demise of former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.
The 89-year-old Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman, Thapa, died in course of treatment at New Delhi-based Medanta Hospital on Wednesday night.
Thapa had served as Nepal’s prime minister for a record five times—three times during Panchyat regime and twice after the establishment of democracy.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has forwarded the proposal to declare tomorrow as public holiday to the Cabinet. The final rites of Thapa will be held on Friday with state honour.
